Importing poverty to US

Jeff Rock says in his article 'Importing Poverty to US' in OpEdnews September 6 2011 :-

For thirty years our politicians, doing the bidding of their corporate masters, have been driving our economy and laws at increasing speeds towards the abyss of economic collapse and social deprivation. They have championed deregulation, free trade, tax cuts for the rich and foreign wars of aggression and imperialism. The result of thirty years of these policies is a ruined economy and a phenomenal loss of jobs. Today we are headed towards economic and social destruction at an astounding pace. Nothing is standing in the way and not one of our leaders shows any sign of wanting to change the inevitable outcome. Our path has brought us to the edge of economic annihilation. We are already falling into the abyss. The only question left is when will we hit bottom?

Our leaders made a choice that the rest of us must live with. They could have led us to a bright future that is inclusive and enlightened but they opted for short term personal gain. The cost of their folly is being paid by the millions of jobless, homeless, hungry, sick and dying or dead Americans who are left in the wake of trash generated by this thoughtless group of naïve and corrupt hoodlums and criminals who now fill the halls of US government and US corporations. At this late stage in the collapse of the US it is virtually impossible to alter the inevitable outcome. We can only hope that these hooligans hurry up so that their reign of terror can come to an ignoble end and we can begin the process of cleaning up the mess for the sake of our children and grandchildren. And it may take many decades to correct the mistakes that the "most brilliant men in the room' made over the last three decades.

Author's Bio: An economist for 35 years with views on the left, now probably considered far left. I assert Democrats are part of the corporate oligarchy strangling our democracy, economy and civil liberties. Attended university in Montpellier, France, Jeff now consults about green building technologies in the US and internationally. He approaches economics and politics as one subject, just as they were in the nineteenth century before corporate interests segregated the two, effectively eviscerating economics as a valid political analytical tool.

Forty-Second Pacific Islands Forum in Auckland

The Pacific Islands Forum is held in Auckland this week. It coincides with the Opening of the Rugby World Cup in Auckland.
I pray that genuine and caring outcomes will be reached in terms of alleviating poverty, combating global warming, fair trade policies, access to education and health services, just and environment friendly investments, and a non-boomerang aid approach to aid to the pacific islands.

I pray that leaders of the pacific islands will find the courage to stand up for the people of the pacific against the dominance of bigger nations.

Please Lord may your spirit of love enter the minds of the delegates at the Pacific Islands Forum - AMEN.

Congratulations to the Pacific Conference of Churches

Happy 50th Birthday to the Pacific Conference of Churches celebrating in Samoa.

I pray that in the next decade of your life, you will make relevant contributions to erase the immorality influencing pacific island societies; that you will raise the consciousness of all people to the plight of the poor, the sick, the homeless, the imprisoned, and the greediness and materialism evident in the Pacific Church. That you will speak up against policies that are hurting and untoward to the daily lives of the people in the pacific.

Best Wishes

Meripa Olive Weir - Brisbane, Australia
